Nude Yoga

Yoga (Sanskrit, Pāli: योग yóga) refers to traditional physical and mental disciplines that originated in India.[1] The word is associated with meditative practices in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism.[2][3][4] Within Hinduism, it refers to one of the six orthodox (āstika) schools of Hindu philosophy, and to the goal towards which that school directs its practices.[5][6] In Jainism, yoga is the sum total of all activities — mental, verbal and physical.

Naked yoga or Nude Yoga is the practice of yoga without clothes. The practice is gaining popularity, notably in western societies that have more familiarity with social nudity. While many practice naked yoga at home, there are a growing number of participants, including children, in group classes. It is becoming popular in Europe and USA.[1] In the West since the 1960s, naked yoga practice has been incorporated in progressive settings for well-being, such as at the Esalen Institute in California, as depicted in the 1968 film Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice. Other films with notable segments include The Harrad Experiment and Naked Yoga (1974). In New York City in 1998, an American going by the name Jayadev started a group called “Midnight Yoga for Men” where participants practiced “naked before the infinite” in the style of the sadhus. Aaron Star, owner of Hot Nude Yoga, began his version of nude yoga in April 2001 becoming an instant “underground sensation” as quoted by Time Out New York. Because of the success of Hot Nude Yoga, nude yoga groups began to blossom all over the world, from London, Moscow, Madrid to Sydney. Many of these male-only naked yoga groups have been associated with the gay community,[2] though often not intentionally. One Taste Urban Retreat Center popularized naked yoga after it was reported in the San Francisco Chronicle.[3]

Nude Yoga is a new term coming out recently. We know the practice of Yoga and spiritual practices to attain super bliss and eternity. But how come the practice of Nude Yoga is accepted? Are these are perversions or advancements of practices? Is this Nude Yoga is really special or a small gimmicks of jumbling the words and cross faculty interpretations or are there any real benefits out of this practice. What are the opinions of Nude Yoga Practitioners-?

What NUDE YOGA Practitioners SAY?

NUDE Yoga is a process by which one achieves liberation of the self, actualization of one’s goals, and union with the supreme self through intense meditation, concentration, and commitment. The fact that the yoga is performed in the nude is significant because in the nude status, the toxins in the body find an outlet leading to purification of body and soul. Nude Yoga is a state of meditation in which you journey in the nude into the realm of the sub-conscious, and come to terms with the inner passions, carnal and material desires and wants, and your unfulfilled dreams. This state of trance or suspended animation achieved during the Nude yoga or Pundai Yoga has beneficial physiological and psychological effects, not the least of which is the relief from stress and anger, and a stronger commitment to the goals ahead.

  • The Schools Practice –
  • Asana in Nude
  • Kundalini in Nude
  • Yoni Yagna (Vagina worship)
  • Linga Pooja (Penile worship)
  • Pundai Yoga
  • Nirvana
  • Tantric sex, etc

The question is, whether it is fashion or really the practitioners lost interest in materialistic activities, there by they are opting this method of Naked Yoga? It could be either single in closed compartment or in a Group Nude Yoga even.

Yoga Practice May Help Ward off Cold and Flu

A recent story on NPR sheds some light on evidence that may help keep you from one thing that everyone dreads- catching a cold or flu this season. The British Journal of Sports Medicine study cited found that people who exercised 5 days a week got sick for 40% fewer days than those who did so one day or less. While the exact reason why this is the case is still only speculation in the scientific community, there seems to be a clear correlation here. A similar study by the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle found results that mirror these findings as well.

Dr. David Neiman of Appalachian State University adds another layer to this, saying that after 90 minutes of high exertion- like long distance running- our defenses instead go down, opening us up to sickness for up to 24 hours following exercising. So the key here is not to wear yourself out and inhibit your body’s defenses.

Yoga is a great option for reaping these benefits, since each person practices to his or her own ability so as not to be hard on the body. The meditative aspect of practice serves as a one-two punch by helping to manage stress, which we know only impedes the immune system further. In addition to lowering stress levels, yoga has been lauded for centuries for improving strength, posture, flexibility, concentration, heart and lung health, and so much more.

The implications of the study are that one is exercising for at least 20 minutes on each of those 5 days, so whether you can attend an hour class or practice at home for only a half hour, most of us can certainly find the time. Even 15 minutes at the beginning and end of a busy day is great. Alternating days of yoga and cardio is also a great option to vary your routine, and in return, your fitness benefits.

Where else besides yoga class can you go to stay in shape, centered and flu-free? There’s nowhere better.

In peace and health,
